The ammonites were abundant 175 million to 65 million years ago. Because they lived exclusively in the ocean their presence also indicates the location of prehistoric seas. Here they are depicted as interlocking overlaying fossils in a continuous wallpaper style which acknowledges many layers of growth, decay and repetittion. Interesting to see the changes ammonite fossils have gone through from prehistoric times to modern day relatives. A true marker of evolution in the natural world.
